Job Description

Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking a Data Scientist to help us modernize our forecasting and analytical prowess. The Data Scientist is part of the Data and Analytics team which supports the entire organization and has built solutions during periods of tremendous growth. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Data Scientist with the expertise to help maintain what we have built while at the same time, help us develop and execute on a more state-of-the-art approach. The Data Scientist will be responsible for delivering forecasting and data science needs to our business partners by actively identifying opportunities, providing actionable, insightful analysis and designing scalable programs.


Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:

  • Work on all aspects of creating predictive intelligence including collecting requirements, establish analytics work plan, data exploration, cleansing, and preparation, identifying features, selecting algorithms, building and testing models, iteratively improving solutions
  • Develop data driven, insightful analyses to answer questions, with a focus on cause and effect relationships, address business challenges or identify opportunities, and provide actionable recommendations
  • Build and leverage statistical or analytical models as required
  • Coordinate and/or supervise efforts of other Data Science resources in the team to deliver best-in-class analytical solutions
  • Present these qualitative and quantitative solutions to business partners, including recommendations
  • Leverage story-telling skills to deliver insights that are clear, concise and actionable
  • Enable collaboration efforts between analytics team and business units cross-functionally to drive common goal achievement and meet organizational objectives
  • Design and maintain production databases when needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (i.e. STEM)
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in data science or a PhD in a data science related field
  • Fluency in Python and SQL
  • Experience in extracting, manipulating, and analyzing large data sets using Python and SQL
  • Experience in relational databases, database design, modelling and implementation
  • Ability to write scalable, flexible, reusable, well-documented and clean code
  • Familiarity with fundamental computer science concepts
  • Experience in predictive modelling
  • Statistical foundation, with knowledge of common statistical analysis techniques
  • Proven ability to think creatively about challenging problems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comfortable working with Unix-based OS
  • Familiarity with advanced visualization tools and techniques


Work Hours: 

Typically Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with flexibility to meet business demands as needed.
