Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking a SQL Database Engineer. The SQL Database Engineer will report to the Senior Director of Infrastructure and Operations and work closely with the Principal Database Engineer to meet organizational needs. The candidate must be self-motivated and possess strong analytical and communication skills.  Key focus areas of the role are research and development of new products and cloud solutions to meet the growing needs of the University. The successful candidate will have the willingness and drive to learn and work in a transformational environment.   Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following: Research emerging technologies and provide recommendations based on findings Management of SQL environments including but not limited to: Configure and tune the HADR features of MS SQL Server Enterprise edition in a Clustered environment Provide technical recommendation of MS SQL system optimization, tuning, upgrades, enhancements and integration to include database hardware, software and storage capability Work with SQL replication that includes transitional replication and always on availability groups Maintain the security, integrity, and performance of databases and environments including but not limited to access controls and securing data gateways Design implement and maintain database security strategies that provide the appropriate level of security for users and applications Analyze and remediate security vulnerabilities and audit related risks Perform data modeling and reverse engineering Analyze system and database performance Document and enforce standards and processes for installing, configuring, securing and monitoring MS SQL Server in a high availability environment Stay current on the latest technology trends to provide insight into strategic and tactical decisions Work closely with systems and development teams to provide technical expertise Design database backup and restoration strategies   Minimum Qualifications: 10 years of experience in Microsoft SQL Platforms 10 + years MS SQL Server Administration 5+ years performance tuning and optimization, using monitoring and troubleshooting tools 3+ years supporting SQL Server environments in a DevOps process 2+ years of Microsoft Azure database offerings Bachelor’s Degree(s), Equivalent of experience in lieu of degree acceptable Eager to learn new technologies and take ownership for technical projects Experience with Microsoft BI gateway, SSRS\SSIS\SSAS and DPA suite Ability to demonstrate creative thinking, advanced problem solving and troubleshooting Ability to analyze and solve complex technical problems Excellent communication skills Understanding of modern architecture and development practices Self-starter with a willingness to learning Azure platforms and cloud offerings (Machine Learning, data factory, PaaS, IaaS, Data Lake, Data Catalog, Key Vault, NSG, Application insights, OMS, containers, Storage accounts, Gateways, Geo replication, AAD, recovery services and cost management) Flexible, team player, 'get-it-done' personality Ability to organize and plan work independently   Preferred Qualifications: Experience with on-premise to cloud migrations Experience in provisioning, administering & troubleshooting services on the Azure platform Experience with automation platforms (PowerShell, Python, R server, SQL, CLI, JSON) Strong understanding of Microsoft Azure offerings for PaaS, IaaS, Machine Learning, MongoDB, Data, Analytics, Storage,  DataFactory & Security Center   Work Hours:  Typically Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with flexibility to meet business demands as needed
